New UK Coding System HRG4 – New French GHM classification system - New Italian coding & DRG systems: Are you Ready?
Reimbursement mechanisms applicable to medical devices across Europe are constantly evolving. Three of the largest markets in the EU are implementing major overhauls of their hospital payment systems this
year: do you know how these changes are likely to affect your products?
A new coding system HRG4 is being introduced in the UK from 1 April 2009. There are twice as many codes in this version of HRGs as in the previous version (3.5). Accompanying this change are a wide range of changes to the National Tariff which is used for reimbursement.
Similarly in France, the new version 11 of the GHM classification system, to be implemented around end March 2009 will significantly alter the number of GHMs and the way ambulatory groups are classified; consequently all the GHS tariffs will be recalculated.
In Italy the Government surprised everyone by publishing - on December 18th 2008 - the details of a significantly modified DRG system to be implemented nationally from January 1st 2009. The lists of both diagnosis and procedure codes have been completely updated, and 54 new DRGs have been added and 22 eliminated.
This event will present material on these changes and explore the implications for the reimbursement of a range of medical devices. It will also provide strategies to optimise reimbursement in key European countries.
