INTRODUCTION

Pre-filled syringes are playing an increasingly important role in both the hospital and retail markets as they can provide convenience and potential cost benefits in the former and improved compliance in the latter.  With the announced intent of several major pharmaceutical companies to focus on development of biotechnology products, including vaccines, there is expected to be an even greater focus on how these, primarily injectable, products will be provided into the market in order to maximize their acceptance and benefits throughout the value chain. Additionally, in an increasingly competitive environment such injection systems can provide a distinguishing feature between Similar or identical products, of particular importance with the continuing focus on development of biosimilars. However, the development of pre-filled syringe products has been shown from past experience not to be without technical challenges. Newer materials and manufacturing technologies also continue to develop as do regulatory processes required to obtain approval for such products.

This meeting will provide attendees with an update on market trends, greater awareness of technology advances, and insights from case studies involving development of pre-filled syringes.
